Dr Andrew Cairns provides expert diagnosis and treatment of all forms of arthritis, autoimmune disease and unexplained joint pain, with over 20 years of Consultant experience.
He has been a Consultant Rheumatologist in Belfast HSC Trust, at Musgrave Park and Belfast City Hospitals, since 2004
He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Queen's University, Belfast, and is the President of the Irish Society for Rheumatology
His practice encompasses all areas of adult Rheumatology including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, connective tissue disorders and muscle and tendon pain.
Dr Cairns is a member of the British Society for Rheumatology and is the President of the Irish Society for Rheumatology. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Royal College of Physicians of London, and Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
He holds a Master of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine. He has EFSUMB certification in musculoskeletal ultrasound. He enjoys swimming, cycling and running, and has competed in Triathlon at all distances from Sprint up to full Ironman distance.
Dr Cairns sees private patients at the Belfast Rheumatology Clinic, at Medical Associates, 25 Derryvolgie Avenue, Belfast, Kingsbridge Private Hospital Belfast, and the Ulster Independent Clinic. The clinics offer fully equipped consulting rooms with dedicated reception and nursing staff. Joint and soft tissue injections are carried out at the Belfast Rheumatology Clinic, under ultrasound guidance when indicated.
Dr Cairns is a Bupa Platinum Consultant and is also recognised by all major Health Insurance providers including Benenden, Aviva, Vitality, WPA and Axa PPP. He is recommended on Doctify.
